The park, located at the end of a mountain range, dominates the surroundings.  Passing through wild jungle, we head for the centre of the park where we will spend the rest of the day.  Dinner and night at Cuc Phuong Park.

After breakfast, if we have the time, we will go and visit the Cuc Phuong Primate Centre just before riding on a road that will take us towards to the Lao border.  This road crosses a spectacular mountainious region so we will have to climb various passes before descending to the lovely Mai Chau Valley.  A lot of people from the Thai ethnic minority live in that valley.  Dinner and night spent with the locals in a traditional house near Mai Chau.

Day 3: Mai Chau – Phu Yen

(B/L/D)

After breakfast, we leave Mai Chau by the highway.  After a while, we get off the highway to take an old road that dates from the French Colonial times.  It is now virtually never used and it is always amazing to ride on that one!  As we climb higher and higher in the mountains, we will pass villages of Thai, Dzao and H’mong people.  It is not an easy ride at this point, but the views are simply incredible: six different mountain ranges are visible from these heights.  In the afternoon, we will cross the Black River Reservoir bby ferry and then ride on a scenic winding road to Phu Yen, located at the feet of Vietnam’s highest mountain range.  Dinner and night spent at Phu Yen.

Day 4: Phuc Yen – Bac Yen – Son La

(B/L/D)

We jump on our bikes right after breakfast and climp up a dramatic pass to the little village of Bac Yen before cruising down to the Black River.  We will then slowly climb up the Chen Pass before heading back down to the beautiful sugar cane producing area in the vincinity of So La.  We will cross spectacular limestone Karst landscapes before arriving to Son La.  Dinner and night spent in Son La.

Day 5: Son La – Lai Chau

(B/L/D)

We get out of Son La after breakfast heading towards the northwest.  The road we will takes passes through various mountain ranges and through a few Black Thai villages.  You will see scenes of their every day life.  The next pass, Pha Din, is rather challenging because of its steepness, but the scenic reward is really worth the effort.  We will have a pic-nic lunch at the top to enjoy the view before heading back down through willages of H’mong and Thai people.  We will finally go over the Sa Tong pass before diving into the deep Lai Chau Valley where three rivers meet next to the small Lai Chau city.  Dinner and night spent in Lai Chau.

Day 6: Lai Chau – Pa So

After a heartly breakfast, we will cross a suspended bridge over the Black River and head north, along the Nam Na River.  A lot of people from various ethnic minorities live here in small villages nestled between the river and the forest.  We will follow this calm road to the Chinese border and, just before we reach it, we will ride up the road to the Sin Ho plateau which offers breathtaking views of the border.  We will stop in Sin Ho village to eat lunch next to its vibrant market.  We will continue the road on the top of the mountain range, passing through remote villages, before cruising down to Pa So, just next to the Nam Na river.  Dinner and night spent in Pa So.

Day 7: Pa So – Sa Pa

(B/L/D)

If the days of the week allow it, we will visit one of the hill tribe markets in the area.  We will have to climb a lot today because we will have to climb from beautiful Binh Lu to the great Tram Ton pass, Vietnam’s highest road pass.  At this point, we will cross into Lao Cai province at over 2000m above sea level!. The views of the mountains are unbeleivable.  We will the head down the Sa pa valley where we will have a relaxing 1 hour massage just after checking-in to our hotel.  Dinner and night spent in Sa Pa.

Sa Pa is a charming little city at the bottom of mount Fansipan.  Depending on what the group prefers to do on that day, we can relax in the city or go explore around Sa Pa, either back up the high mountain passes or down below in the valley.  No matter what you choose to do, the majestic Fansipan will always be dominating our day…  A lot of ethnic minority people live in the area around Sa Pa.  Late afternoon, we will head down the valley to Lao Cai where we will have dinner. In the evening, we will take the night train back to Hanoi.  We will arrive in Hanoi at 6:00am the next morning.
