Hanoi – Lang Son – Cao Bang – Ba Be Lake –Hanoi

Day 1: Hanoi – Lang Son

In the morning, we hit the road through the plains of the Red River Delta heading out north-east. On the way, we climb up Mau Son mountain to appreciate fantastic sights of China and Ha Long Bay Dinner and night spent in Lang Son. (140km)

Day 2: Lang Son – Highway 4 – Cao Bang

After breakfast, we head northwest on the incredible Highway 4, a road you will remember! We will pass the Dong Dang 'Friendship Gate' on the Chinese border. Coming back to Highway 4, we will see beautiful landscapes on the Chinese border. We follow the road through remote back country to Cao Bang. The area around Cao Bang is simply beautiful. Full of limestone, it is similar in many ways to Ha Long Bay. Dinner and night spent in Cao Bang. (140km)

Day 3: Cao Bang

After breakfast, we explore hop on our bikes to explore in depth the magnificent Cao Bang region with its impressive limestone karst scenery. Driving between thousands of huge rock monoliths and rice paddies tended by ethnic minority people, we will reach Ban Gioc Waterfall, on the Chinese border. The road is son fun! During the pic-nic lunch break, we can take a swim in the fresh water under the waterfall. In the afternoon we come back to Cao Bang on a different road, passing even more impressive karst scenery. Dinner and night spent in Cao Bang. (170km)

Day 4: Cao Bang

After breakfast, we head to the border on a road surrounded by a massive chain of mountains and head to Pac Po Cave where Ho Chi Minh made his return to Vietnam in 1941. Afterwards, the roads gets a bit harder, but is incredible. We pass through deep, remote regions and rest at a secluded lake deep in the forest. At the end of the day, we head back to Cao Bang via a sealed road (finally!). Dinner and night in Cao Bang. (150km)

Day 5: Cao Bang – Ba Be

After breakfast,we head south-west from Cao Bang in the middle of impressive mountain scenery. We will climb the Cao Bac Pass from where you will have amazing views of the surroundings. While descending, we will see hillsides covered with apiaries. The area is the most famous one for honey in Vietnam. In late afternoon, we will arrive at Ba Be Lake in the heart of the National Park of the same name. A lot of people consider Ba Be Lake to be the country’s most beautiful. It is surrounded by jungle and limestone cliffs. Dinner and night spent with the locals in a traditional house on the shores of the lake. (150km)

Day 6: Ba Be

The whole day is spent to visit Ba Be Lake and its surroundings. We will visit some markets, take a boat cruise across the lake, explore isolated caves and have lunch next to a waterfall. Swimming and fishing are both possible. Dinner and night spent with the locals in a traditional house on the shores of the lake.

Day 7: Ba Be – Hanoi

After breakfast, we head back to Hanoi. We will avoid the main roads as much as possible so you can enjoy the sights. We will cross once again the Red River Delta passing through where H’mong, Dzao, Tay and Nung ethnic minority people live. Arriving in Hanoi, before our final dinner together, we will have a relaxing massage to ease the tension in our muscles…(200km)
