Hanoi - Laocai - Can Cau - Bac Ha - Sapa - Hanoi

 

Day 1 (Fri): Hanoi – Lao Cai by train

In the evening board the overnight sleeper train to Lao Cai on the Chinese border.

OVERNIGHT ON TRAIN

 

Day 2 (Sat): Lao Cai – Can Cau – Bac Ha

Breakfast in Lao Cai followed by a morning drive to the mountain town of Bac Ha to visit the Can Cau Market, one of the most exotic tribal markets in northern Vietnam. Can Cau attracts a large number of minorities including Flower H’mong, Tay, Nung, and Thai. Lunch at Can Cau.  In the afternoon drive back to Bac Ha and stroll through ethnic villages and visit the ancient palace of a former H’mong King.  Dinner in Bac Ha.

OVERNIGHT IN BAC HA.

Day 3 (Sun): Bac Ha – Sapa

After breakfast, the morning is spent exploring the Sunday market of Bac Ha with its colorful array of ethnic minorities including Flower H’mong, Phu La and Dao Tuyen. Lunch in Bac Ha followed by transfer to Sapa.  The rest of the afternoon is free to explore Sapa and the Dragon Mount.  Dinner in Sapa.

OVERNIGHT IN SAPA.

Day 4 (Mon): Sapa - Lao Chai - Ta Van - Ta Phin

After breakfast, drive to Lao Chai, the staging point for today's hike. Begin the 6km trek down into a rice-terraced valley. Walk though remote villages, rice paddies and thatched-roof homes of the H’mong. Continue hiking to the village of Ta Van, one of the few villages in the Sapa area inhabited by the Zay tribe. Return to Sapa along a dramatic winding trail.  Pic-nic lunch in the valley. In the afternoon visit Black H’mong, Zay and Red Dao minorities in picturesque Ta Phin valley.  Once in Sapa, enjoy a 1 hour soothing massage before dinner.

OVERNIGHT IN SAPA.

Day 5 (Tue): Sapa - Hanoi by car

After breakfast, depart from Sapa for a full day’s drive back to the capital. The road offers beautiful landscapes, from high mountains to verdoyant rice paddies.  Lunch en route and dinner in Hanoi.
